Compared to fans of other genres, electronic music lovers are 52% more likely to leave a comment, 104% more likely to share a track, and 85% more likely to repost.
Electronic music fans are making waves on SoundCloud, standing out as the platform’s most active and loyal listeners. During the Amsterdam Dance Event on October 17, SoundCloud shared some eye-opening stats, confirming that electronic music isn’t just a global phenomenon—it’s also a driving force on their platform.
Compared to fans of other genres, electronic music lovers are 52% more likely to leave a comment, 104% more likely to share a track, and 85% more likely to repost. SoundCloud has become a digital home for these listeners, with exclusive content like remixes and live sets drawing them in.
But it’s not just about the music. SoundCloud’s unique ability to foster direct artist-to-fan communication has helped create a tight-knit community around electronic music. As Jack Bridges from SoundCloud put it earlier this year, the platform allows artists to build something from scratch by connecting with their fans directly. And it’s working—electronic music on the platform is on a steady rise.
In fact, experts predict a 21% increase in electronic music uploads in 2024. Plays have already grown by 6% since 2022, with the genre predicted to account for nearly 22% of all streams this year.
While electronic music is global, some regions stand out. Vietnam ranks third in SoundCloud’s electronic music listener base, while Central and Northern Europe—especially Belgium, Austria, and Germany—have some of the most active electronic music fans.
Among subgenres, house music reigns supreme, clocking in the most plays and listening hours. Hardcore comes in second for total plays, while trance takes the second spot for the number of listeners. Interestingly, trance is also the fastest-growing genre, seeing a 24% boost in listening time and an 11% rise in listeners since 2023.
